The Deanship of Development& Quality organized a workshop entitled “Learning Outcomes Assessment.” It was organized in association with the British Council. It was run by Bill Boyle, professor of Education, chair of Educational Assessment and Director of the centre for formative assessment studies (CFAS) in the school of Education at the University of Manchester. The workshop lasted for two days. Prof. Boyle initiated the workshop by introducing his own vision about the process of students’ assessment as he explained that the idea of assessment should be continuous and realistic, which has to be consistent with the actual level of the students and their environment.
In other words, the core idea behind the assessment of the students is to improve their academic level; accordingly, it should be continuous. In addition, he provided the faculty members with the adequate knowledge about how to formulate and creatively write the learning outcomes being derived from the five domains of knowledge offered by Blooms Taxonomy. He also explained the basic concepts necessary for assessing the learning outcomes, as they are considered integral part of the process of learning and teaching. They help the faculty member to explore the points of weaknesses and strengths so that he/she can provide the necessary support for his/her students, which participates in improving their academic.
In addition, the workshop tackled the idea of how to associate the learning outcomes, teaching methods and assessment methods with the five learning domains introduced in the National Framework. The differences between learning outcomes and the objectives of learning have been tackled as well.
