Having committed to spreading the quality of culture amongst the new teaching staff members, the Deanship of Quality and Development has organized a workshop entitled “Course Specification and Course Report”. It was conducted and presented by Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Omran, the consultant of Development and Quality Deanship. Sixty teaching staff members have attended the workshop including both genders.
The workshop was initiated by defining the academic program as a set of organized educational experiences designed to develop certain skills of students through some academic courses that meet the university requirements, and the specialization requirements. This information is filled in special forms, namely, program /course specification, designed by the National Commission for Accreditation and Assessment. Prof. Omran explained the advantages stemming from the program/ course specification as it represents the main source of information for the enrolled students or the prospective enrolled students. In addition, it is considered a means to get acquainted the program. In other words, it provides the faculty members, employers, and external and internal reviewers with the main source of knowledge about the academic programs and courses. In addition, the program/ course specification participates in the effective planning for improving and developing the courses in the light of the recent challenges at both the regional and international levels.
The trainees have been divided into several groups, as they were trained to fill in the forms of the program/ course specifications and how to make use of the guidelines posed by the National Commission for Accreditation and Assessment. The workshop witnessed unprecedented discussions between the trainer and the trainees, which focused on the potential problems and the difficulties which may face the teaching staff members when filling in the forms of the course/program specifications and writing the intended learning outcomes in line with the implementing teaching strategies to accomplish such outputs.
The feedback proved the satisfaction of the trainees with the knowledge being offered during the workshop and the brochures. In addition, it provides a good channel for positive dialogue with the trainees.
